To ensure that our students have the best possible experience in each location, Winterline Global Skills Program has researched and assembled a world-class team of partners to deliver the 100+ skills and experiences that make our program so unique.
As part of our “About Us” blog series, we thought we’d share a quick profile of one such best-of-class partner: Outward Bound Costa Rica, which has been offering experiential learning programs for over 20 years.
What is Outward Bound? Outward Bound is a non-profit educational organization that serves people of all ages and backgrounds through active learning expeditions that inspire character development, self-discovery and service. It consistently delivers programs using unfamiliar settings as a way for participants to experience adventure and challenge to help them realize they can do so much more than they thought possible.
As part of our Central America semester, our students have engaged in a custom program created just for Winterline by Carolyn Crist, Custom Group Programs & Partnership Manager of Outward Bound Costa Rica. They've had scuba and swimming lessons, and learned about motorboat maintenance, ocean safety, tides and local ecology.
Next, they practiced the skills they’ve learned while kayaking among the islands of Bocas del Toro with their Outward Bound Costa Rica instructors, camping and engaging with remote indigenous communities along the way.
The outcomes? Leadership, intercultural competence, Spanish language, self-awareness, and life skills. Wow. Can’t ask for more than that!
On behalf of our 2015 Winterliners, we thank our partner Outward Bound Costa Rica for its amazing custom programming created just for us. Stay tuned for pictures from our students that we’ll share as soon as they are off the water and back within range of Internet. In the meantime, here's a picture of a past Outward Bound student suba diving.
