To kick off their time in India, our Winterline cohort spent a special day at the Mahindra United World College of India which is located on a beautiful 175-acre conservation reserve overlooking the Mulshi and Kolvan valleys. During their time at the school, our group was given the opportunity to practice the essential skills of empathy and caregiving by participating in "Sadhana Friends Activities with Special Friends," part of the school's commitment to providing with powerful, life-defining experiences for its students.
The goal of the "Special Friends" program and activities is to help better the treatment of those with mental health and physical disabilities. Through an array of activities ranging from dancing and drumming to storytelling and singing, the activities were focused around breaking down the barriers, stigmas and stereotypes that are often associated with the the disabled. As you can see from the photos. The day was an enjoyable, and mind-opening day for our cohort.
